CITY ON FIRE
City on Fire is the debut album from City of Life Church, one of Central Florida’s most vibrant, growing churches. Under the direction of senior pastor and worship leader Jeffrey Smith, City of Life’s vibrant worship has been captured on this live release of thirteen tracks that will drive you to a deeper expression of love for God.
On July 23, 2009, the entire City of Life family came together for an unforgettable evening of worship that emerged as this live album. The evening was a celebration of all that God had done among this body of believers, as they sang songs that had been birthed in intimate moments of corporate worship.
The song FIRE is a City of Life favorite, with its infectious rhythms and catchy bilingual chorus. Written during a pre-service rehearsal and sung in church that same evening, the song instantly caught on among the congregation because it captures the excitement of believers who are fervent in devotion to the house of God. It’s called “The Song that Changed a City” because it has stirred the hearts of worshipers to burn with passion for the Lord. (See the music video of FIRE here).
Another upbeat track, reminiscent of popular rock artists Kings of Leon, is I’m Changed. The song is written from Galatians 2:20, reminding us that we are crucified with Christ: “There’s a dead man in the grave beneath my name / It reminds me of the day my life was changed / Now it is not I but it is Christ living in me.”
Accompanying vibrant songs of praise like J-O-Y, Taking the Limits Off and the neo-disco Favor of Heaven, are slower, more worshipful tracks. Song of the Free was written during a men’s conference held at the church, where Jeffrey witnessed two hundred men experience the freedom that comes through the power of the cross. The song This Is Your House, written by City of Life founding pastor and worship leader Janis Smith, is a jazz-inspired declaration of being set apart for the use of the Lord.
Jeffrey and his wife Amy pray that this album helps worshipers across the world to connect with God in a fresh way.
